Pollution of air and water

PART- A

Q1: what do you mean by polluted air or water?
Ans: if your water contains some substances that are harmful for us and our environment, then that air or water is said to polluted air or water.

Q2: mention any three observation that indicate that a given sample of water is polluted?
Ans: 1 its colour is dirty.
2 It tastes bad.
3 It is smells bad.
4 Oral oil grease is float in .

Q3: what is chemical  pollution of water?
Ans: if harmful chemicals mix with water bodies , then it cause chemical pollution of water.

Q4: name the six chemical pollutants  of water.
Ans: 1  oil and grease
 2  Mineral acids
3  Pesticides and fertilizers
4  Metals and their compounds
5  Synthetic chemicals
6  Phosphate  from detergents.

Q5: name four water- borne  diseases?
Ans: typhoid
Cholera
Dysentery
Hepatitis.

Q6: what do you mean by portable water?
Ans: the water which is good for drinking is called portable water.

Q7 : how is activated charcoal made and what is its role in purification of water?
Ans: it is charcoal which is formed by heating simple charcoal in the absence of air. this activated Charcoal holds the impurities ( dirt particles)  strongly with it.

Q8: what is bleaching powder used for in the purification of water?
Ans: when bleaching powder is mixed with water it will release some chlorine gas which kills all germs present in the water .

Caocl2 + H20 = CaCoH2 - Cl2
Bleaching powder , water , calcium hydroxide, chlorine

PART- B

Q1: how does carbon monoxide effect us?
Ans: carbon monoxide is a very poisonous and colourless gas. It is very harmful for us. When it will mix with blood it will form carboxyhemoglobin . it is stop the supply of oxygen to cell. Because of it, will cause a death of that person.

Q2: what is the advantage of using CNG in preference to petrol or diesel in the automobile?
Ans: it produces less harmful gases like carbon monoxide and some soot particles. Because it contains methane which produces lesser pollutants coal, petrol diesel etc. so, it helps in reducing pollution.

PART- C

Q1: name three pollutants (except dust and soot) of air and mention their sources.
Ans: pollutants:
1  Carbon monoxide
2  Chloro fluoro carbons ( CFCs)
3  Oxides of nitrogen.

Source
1. By combustion of fuel in vehicles.
(B) . By combustion of coal in thermal plants.
3. Leak refrigerators and air conditioners.
4. From combustion of petrol, diesel or coal.

Q2: describe eutrophication?
Ans: it is defined as the phenomenon of sudden increase in nutrients in the water bodies . these nutrients are coming from nearby land. Microorganisms like these nutrients . When they get these nutrients they grow very fastly. They covers whole surface of water bodies.these organism get their oxygen from the water . The aquatic plants and animals will get less oxygen and light . So, they will die at last.
